Barry Jurgensen, a history teacher from Arlington, Nebraska, will stop at the Hitchcock House on his journey retracing the escape of two ex-slaves in a 500 mile journey from Nebraska City, Nebraska, to Chicago, Illinois. Barry's goal is to use the history of slavery in America to shed light on the existence of modern-day slavery, known as human trafficking. He is partnering with the Frederick Douglass Family Initiatives, a public charity whose aim is to reduce the vulnerability of children to human trafficking by educating students and coordinating community resources. Doug Jones, Iowa State Society Archeologist will provide a review on the Underground Railroad research in Iowa.
